Postponement Announcement on North End Community Meeting in Regards to Bay/Strachan

Dear North End Residents,

On September 13th 2012 we were to gather for a meeting at the Bennetto Recreation Centre (Auditorium) at 7pm, to have an information session in respect to the parcel and the potential surplus of land at Bay/Strachan.

In May, at the time of scheduling this Community Meeting, we had anticipated that the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) would have issued the decision on the North End Neighbourhood Association’s appeal of the Setting Sail Secondary
Plan (SSSP). Unfortunately, the decision has been made, but has not yet been issued. This, despite being told by officials at the OMB the decision would be issued in June of 2012. It would be premature to meet prior to the land use
designation on the property being in force and effect. With regrets, we will need to postpone the Community meeting. Once we have the decision and the opportunity to review it, the meeting will be rescheduled.

For details on this subject, please read the corresponding pages and remember your comments are always welcome.

Sincerely,
Councillor Jason Farr

Setting Straight Setting Sail at Bay and Strachan

A few months ago, I put a Notice of Motion on the floor at a Planning Committee meeting. The Notice was to declare the subject lands at the corner of Bay and Strachan surplus thus allowing for low density residential development (3 stories or less) in accordance with the zoning for this corner as stated in the Setting Sail Secondary Plan (SSSP). The Notice of Motion also contained statements of public record that this project would see a design review committee that included neighbourhood residents. Residents would have a say in any future design in an effort to ensure it respects the existing neighbourhood. (To view the presentation of the Notice of Motion, and the meetings agenda CLICK HERE. Fast-forward to the end of the meeting (timecode: appox. 1:51:30 – 1:54:10). Note, a Notice of Motion, unlike a motion, is not voted on. It simply notifies Committee of a future motion).
